How do I choose an area rug to complement my sofa and furniture?
Choose an area rug that balances both color and pattern with your other furniture. If you have patterned furniture, choose a solid or neutral rug. Likewise, go for patterns or geometric designs if you have a solid-colored couch. For color, pick an accent color as opposed to the dominant color. For example, a rug with gold undertones will match with brass accents in the room.
What size rug do I need for my room?
What size area rug you need depends on the room and how much bare floor you want to leave. For living rooms, either all furniture can sit on the rug, or just the front legs of the sofa; 8x10 and 9x12 are the most common sizes. However, for dining rooms, the chairs should still sit on the rug even when pulled out, so leave 24 to 30 inches of space on each side of the table.
How do I clean and care for a wool rug?
For routine maintenance, vacuum a wool rug weekly with a suction-only setting—not a spinning brush or beater bar, which can pull up fibers. To treat spills, blot them up immediately with a dry cloth, pressing firmly into the rug. Don’t rub the cloth, which can push the stain deeper into the rug. If possible, rotate the rug twice a year to promote even wear and sun exposure.
