Designed by Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen, the new Mauro seating series is shaped through the atmosphere of Italian trattorias and interpreted through the tenets of Danish design. The project began with memories of Trattoria Bolognese da Mauro in Milan, a place the design duo returned to repeatedly over many years not for formality, but for the feeling it created.

THE STORY OF MAURO
In 2012 when we (Mads + Emil) came to our first Salone del Mobile we stayed at the place of a friend’s friend. Looking through her record collection we didn’t see any Eros Ramazotti and started to wonder if she really was Italian. But she would prove us wrong.
When we asked her to take us to her favorite restaurant, the next we were invited to her friend’s restaurant located in the Navigli district in the southern part of Milan. “Trattoria Bolognese da Mauro” said the neon sign on the facade of an old, run-down house. From the outside you could see the fluorescent lights and hear the buzz and clatter of voices and wine glasses from inside.
Entering the place we were welcomed by the two owners - Danielle and Ruggero. They had taken over from their father (Mauro) who opened the place in the sixties - and you could sense right away that they were good company. Unfortunately they were fully booked that night. But Danielle made us a drink and disappeared into the back. He was gone for a few minutes and when he returned he showed us through the kitchen to a little room where all the pasta was drying. Here he had set a table for us.
Surrounded by linguine and pappardelle we had the night of our lives. Maybe not only because of the food but because of the warm atmosphere and the quirky details of the restaurant. We came back the night after and have returned every year since, always welcomed by hugs and big laughs.
